Smoothbeam Laser – Friend or Foe?
In evaluating which acne laser treatments may be your choice of miracle workers on acne scars, you may not have heard of the Smoothbeam Laser. Before you start reading however, if you cannot imagine remaining out of direct sunlight for four to six weeks, then you may want to hold off on this acne treatment until autumn or winter is descending, as after care requires avoidance of the sunlight for a while. This device stimulates the under layer of tissue to minimize acne and acne scars on the outer layer. The laser has a self-regulating cooling system that protects the outer skin from damage while heating the upper dermis. Some clinics use the Zimmer cold air tool to blow cool air on the skin while administering the laser. Sebaceous glands shrink while collagen increases, when the dermis is laser stimulated.
The Smoothbeam Laser is a regular part of acne control in order to continue shrinking sebaceous glands but after your skin is at the quality you desire, only infrequent treatments should be necessary. The treatment can take up to 30 minutes per session, but sometimes as quickly as ten minutes. A numbing cream is applied at the sessions, and treatments begin with mild applications and increase to stronger treatment.
Side Effects: Smoother skin, wrinkle reduction, fine lines disappearing, diminished pores, you know, all those side effects you want to hear about. I’ve read of one person having adverse effects for a few days after, such as redness and bruising, and you should ask about hyper pigmentation if you have darker skin. After stronger treatments are used, people have experienced pain in spite of using extra strength numbing cream. The worst responses I’ve read are by someone whose face developed worse acne after the first treatment, someone who developed hyper pigmentation which was devastating, and someone who developed severe whiteheads after.
When comparing this treatment to microdermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing, you’ll likely get more effective results with this then microdermabrasion, but slower results then laser skin resurfacing. People definitely have mixed reviews on this treatment with Vbeam being a better option according to several reviews.
Pricing: anywhere from $150.00 to $350.00 per session is the norm, though higher rates are definitely out there. Some clinics have package deals.
