Eight Steps to Removing Blackheads at Home

June 16th, 2010 by admin

If you have the money to spend and want to have a dermatologist do this themselves, that is entirely your choice; however, this is something that can be done at home with a few simple items.

1. Have ready some cotton balls and rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol).
2. Soak your blackhead extractor that you have purchased in a dish of the rubbing alcohol. Use a clean cloth to wipe it dry after soaking for about half an hour.
3. Get out some basic soap and hot water, and start lathering up. Your skin will be softened and your pores will be opened for the procedure coming up. Some experts recommend antimicrobial soap, but after all the health scares about using antimicrobial products to keep bacteria at bay, I don’t know if I would bother.
4. Dry your face and hands with a clean cloth.
5. Take your sterile blackhead remover and place firmly over a blackhead, using your other finger to remove what comes out and clean each area with a alcohol-soaked cotton ball immediately after each removal.
6. If you have blackheads on your chin and side of nose, run the scoop side of the extractor down those areas, which scrapes the blackheads from those areas.
7. Use some more alcohol-soaked cotton balls to pat over your face, and air-dry for about five minutes.
8. Wash your face with soap and cold water to close the pores. Make sure you have splashed enough cold water on to completely remove the soap and close pores, so don’t rush here.

Word to the wise: don’t have cigarettes or open flame around you as rubbing alcohol is flammable.
